Clowns & Jesters
Life is but fleeting; we toil and grind each day of each week. Then the weekend comes, and we get to kick back and do the thing we’ve been yearning for all week. - “Not meI’m going to spend my Saturday afternoon walking through some city streets. Making a proper nuisance of myself with a few thousand other people. All suffering with the same delusion...that we’re making some kind of difference to the world.”
This noise that has persisted since October 7th, 2023, is now more of an incessant droning. These “talking heads” that pretend to care but are only in it for a raise to their public profile. “Israel/Palestine is where the ratings are, man.” If you doubt it, then just take a look at comedians Dave Smith and Bassem Youssef. (Who the fuck knew who they were before all this hullabaloo?) They stand on the shoulders of corpses in a vain attempt to keep the spotlight cast upon them. They’re a finessed version of the fools that march in protest at whatever it is that’s trending. Today it’s Israel/Palestine—tomorrow... who knows?
It’s all just an exercise in self-grandiosity and a proclivity for the sound of one’s own voice. What else can it be? For nothing is achieved by it-other than an imposition on people going about their day.
If marches and demos cease to garner enough attention, then maybe defacing works of art or glueing oneself to a roadway may do the trick. “Fuck ‘the cause’’ Just keep the spotlight shining on me.”
These are people who, pre “the internet years,” would suffer in silence, with a brooding resentment and full of self-loathing. They would eventually succumb to their dark thoughts by throwing a rope over a strong beam in their parents’ house, then be "no more." At the very least, they could be found in a dark room somewhere, self-harming while listening to “The Smiths.” Now, unfortunately, they have discovered like-minded fools and attained a sense of belonging in a community of dunces.
It is agreed that Gaza has been bent over, its cheeks parted and lubed, then sodomised like a new prison inmate. But what’s new? America has been sodomising the world since its inception and will continue to do so. One thing is certain: when we begin looking to the clowns and court jesters for their views regarding the “status quo,” it is, I feel, the beginning of the end.
